Scripture: Romans 12:2
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”
I wish for your life to be filled with the love and blessing coming from God. Now, I want to share grace with each of you through this message titled “Renew Your Mind.”
When people buy a new house, new clothing, or anything new, whether they are old or young, they gain a sense of newness and their minds are filled with hopes and dreams. But, unless the feeling is renewed, one day the newness disappears and the dreams won’t be achieved.
So, what should you do if you want to plan this New Year to have a new freshness and to bear abundant fruits by the end of this year? The first thing you have to do is to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. When your inner person is transformed and you have become a new creature, that will be a great joy to God and He will lead you to bear much fruit.
How then can we become a new creature?
In the 13th Chapter of the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus illustrated the heart of men with four kinds of fields ?the field at the edge of the road, the stony field, the thorny field, and the good field.
The field along the path is so hard that the seeds sown on it cannot sprout. It refers to those who hear the word of God but never possess faith. Next, the seeds sown on the rocky field sprout out but cannot grow because of the stones. This rocky field refers to those who hear the word of God but do not practice it because of the lack of the assurance of salvation and stumble down when trials come on them. Third, the seeds sown on the thorny filed can sprout and grow but fail to yield fruits because of thorns. Similarly, those with thorny heart field are overwhelmed by greed, temptations of wealth, worries of the world, and their own thoughts and plans, so they cannot experience the power of God.
But the seeds sown on the good field grow well and yield a crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty. In the same way, those with the good heart field obey every word of God and bear abundant fruit in everything they do. If you want to clear and cultivate your heart into the good field, you must not only endeavor for yourself but receive the help of the Holy Spirit and the grace and strength of God as well.
A farmer breaks up the fallow ground and cultivates it into good land. And he removes stones from the field, checks and measures the soil, fertilizes the ground, pulls the weeds out, and gets rid of harmful worms. In the same manner, you have to cultivate and turn the “soil” of your heart into good soil through the Word of God and prayers.
If you turn the uncultivated ground of your mind into a good one, the former stubborn mind will be transformed into a meek and humble one. The unclean mind will become clean. The untruthful mind will become truthful, and wicked mind will be changed into one that is good and obedient.
Therefore, at the beginning of the New Year 2014, may each of you discern exactly what kind of heart-field you have, and then be transformed by the renewing of your mind in the work of the Holy Spirit and enjoy the success and prosperity in everything you do, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ I pray!
